The Medicinal plants of Korea

HERBAL MEDICINES USED IN EASTERN MEDICINE

The great popularity of Eastern medicine among medical workers and population and the successful application of its best advances in modern healthcare have resulted in the need for its further study and possible use in medical science and practice.

Many generations of the Korean people for thousands of years been used to treat illnesses and to maintain health methods of Eastern medicine, due to ancient traditions and the rich variety of medicinal plants with diverse medicinal properties.

Medicinal plants used in Eastern medicine, contain large quantities of diverse substances with a wide spectrum of biological activity, providing a restorative and tonic effect and contributes to maintaining a physiological balance the body and improve metabolism.

It should be noted that medicinal plants used in Eastern medicine, very rarely have unwanted side effects.

In this regard, currently the world is experiencing a constantly growing interest in Oriental medicine techniques and notes the extension of experimental research in this area.

With the broad use of highly efficient and previously well-established drugs from the Arsenal of Eastern medicine is not always achieved the desired results, to ensure that you can to conduct deep research on the level of development of modern science, the study of their chemical composition and objective experimental and clinical evaluation of the effectiveness of therapeutic action.

Due to some historical conditions of the emergence and development of Oriental medicine there are many uncertainties about the use of drugs, mechanisms of action of most of which have not yet received a theoretical justification on the level of modern science.

To overcome these shortcomings, a detailed study of the chemical composition of medicines Oriental medicine, their scientific classification, verification of the therapeutic properties in animal experiments and careful analysis of the results of clinical application are urgently required not only for the development of Oriental medicine, but also for proper and sound combination of uses methods of treatment with the achievements of Western medicine, to further the progress of our medical science.

In connection with constantly growing interest of the population to medicines Oriental medicine, a growing demand for medicinal plants and ever-widening fields of application increasing the level of knowledge of health workers is now becoming particularly important for science-based use of such medicines.

In the Democratic people’s Republic there are about 4200 species of plants, of which about 600 are used for medicinal purposes.

Primarily as medicines use plants that have a tonic effect, for example, ginseng, Chinese limonnik, Ussuri codonopsis, Astragalus. Widespread use for the prevention and treatment of diseases finds a number of other plants containing different biologically active substances. For example, the widely known medicines, such as rosenhan, and changingman padosan, very effective in the treatment of colds and gastritis.

Given the increasingly important role of medicinal plants in the public health system, it is necessary to expand research work on the preparation of them medicines, more effectively use them to improve the health of populations
