As is customary to celebrate it’s thanksgiving in Korea

It’s thanksgiving — one of three most important holidays of Korea. The significance of this event can be compared happy New year (Sollal) according to the lunar calendar and the Tano festival in honor of the end of agricultural works.

It is also called Confusion or Hangawi . which translates as “middle”, as it falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.

In ancient times, the tradition to celebrate it’s thanksgiving were of key importance for Korea, as the main occupation of the people of this country was agriculture. On this day, the peasants worshipped according to the custom of the ancestors, thanking them for a rich harvest and celebrated the completion of work in field with their neighbours.

But the history of the holiday it’s thanksgiving not known. Most historians say about the version about a special relationship to the ancient legends connected with the worship of the moon, particularly the full moon that turns even the darkest night into light. During this the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, Koreans, and made fun of the festivities. They feasted, danced, and generally, considered to this day one of the most important of the year. This view has continued in modern Korea.

One of the most important and popular traditions of celebrating it’s thanksgiving — it’s a trip during the holiday to his birthplace . in order to visit the family cemetery and to commemorate ancestors. A similar ceremony is usually carried out twice a year: in the New year on the lunar calendar and it’s thanksgiving. The difference is that on Sollal traditionally serve the soup with white rice loaf “ttokkuk”, and on it’s thanksgiving — a new rice harvest. After finishing the ancient ritual of sacrifice Koreans go to the graves of ancestors . where should worship the graves and tombstones to weed the hills from weeds. So, people in Korea are showing respect for the ancestors. In the evening go outside to see the moon, lead dances and play folk games.

The reward for the winner can be a roll of tissue, a measure of rice, or a calf. In modern Korea it’s thanksgiving is held on the national wrestling championship «sirim”.

During the Joseon dynasty in the period of hostilities with Japan women and girls, dressed in military clothing, climbed the mountain and drove round dances there, the enemy appeared a misleading view about the forces of the enemy. Outfit for Chuseok

In accordance with tradition, it’s thanksgiving and all the household servants received as a gift from the head of the family new clothes. This tradition in Korean is called “chuskim”. In ancient times it was customary to give the Korean traditional costume called “hanbok”, and today often replace regular clothing. Dressed in new clothes, Koreans perform the ritual worship of ancestors, play traditional games, walking and having fun.

On it’s thanksgiving that marks the completion of agricultural work, are already emerging crops, vegetables and fruits. From grains and fruits of new harvest, make all kinds of meals, treats and wine. A traditional dish for Chuseok is called “Sobhan” . The so-called tortillas made of rice and rice flour stuffed with sesame seeds, sweet beans and chestnuts, which are pressed on the Board, sprinkled with pine needles, that’s why they get a light scent of pine. The day before the holiday evening the whole family gathers together to cook up “SanPiN”. Another essential attribute of the festive table on it’s thanksgiving in Korea is wine . It’s thanksgiving on traditionally drink vodka from rice from the new harvest “pacco” . All the labors and cares in the past, and people take the pressure off for a drink in the intoxicating company of family and friends.
